Got one this morning (photos added!)

Having trouble uploading images, but can report a 10 pointer met his demise this morning. Your basic 8 pointer with a couple of stickers. One brow tine was broken off.

This is the first deer for me with substantial antlers, so very cool.

F.F. I'll send you a PM with my email and I can upload your photo for you.

Also, if you look down on the Technical Help section of the forum there is a thread on how to easily post pictures.

Congrats on the buck! Tell us the story of the hunt.

Thanks for that help on the photo. I'll try to get it going.

The story: My plan was to sit in a blind in a woodlot bordering a crop field as the weather forecast for several days had predicted a very favorable wind direction. However, on my way out the door, for whatever reason, I took one last look and saw the wind was going to be from an entirely unexpected direction. I altered my plans and stillhunted from a different side of the property (believe it or not, the wind was actually coming from a third direction altogether for awhile but I was able to deal with it.)

Came across several does and could have taken one easily, but passed as I was hoping for antlers, By midmorning, I was starting to get tired and and hungry. That was making me sloppy in my stealth, so I decided to head back toward the truck for a break and a sandwich. I took a route along a wooded ridge and I shortly thereafter spotted the buck below me right on the border of the woods and a field of soybean stubble.

He was standing broadside at < 50 yards, his head turned toward me. I got the crosshairs behind his shoulder and fired, and he literally did not move or react at all. I honestly thought I'd missed. I racked another shell to fire again when he suddenly lunged behind some cover. I couldn't see him and wasn't sure if he'd gone down or was hightailing it across the beanfield. I moved to try to get an open shot and then saw an antler sticking up out of the grass. Turns out, my bullet had taken out both lungs and hit exactly where I had aimed.

The gun and ammo: Savage 111 Hunter, 30-06, left hand version. Winchester 165 gr. power points
