Deer mineral test
 

Great video with a ton of information. I create a homemade deer mineral and do a side by side test against 3 other major brands, in 3 different locations. The results may surprise you!

I place out a mixture of :

1 part Di-calcium phosphate, this is a dairy feed additive bought at feed stores.
Comes in 50lb Bags at around $13.00 you need one bag.
2 parts Trace mineral salt, the red and loos kind without the medications.
Comes in 50lb Bags at around $9.00 you need two bags.
1 part Stock salt, ice cream salt.
Comes in 50lb Bags at around $5.00 you need one bag.
I also add one gallon of Lucky Buck for scent/flavor

I use the same mixture. When I was checking on things a couple seeks ago, one site had gone from about an 18" circle to about 6ft wide!

How often do you refresh the mineral site

We’ve tried lots of different types of minerals and blocks for deer and have never had any luck. I am sure it to do with the environment and availability of foods and other needs.

I've tried several, including home made and they all worked. The deer seemed to prefer the Four65 trophy rock chips so I settled with that.

I've been using mineral blocks for probably around 35yrs and the deer have always used them regularly but hit them the hardest around here during the off season Jan - Aug. I go to the local Tractor Supply and buy a trace mineral block for about $6.25. I use to use the Trace mineral powder from southern states and they use it just as good but it doesn't last as long as the block and is a little more expensive so i just started buying the block. I keep them out year round and replace them about every 6 months. Works for me.
