Can i put out a salt block in the winter

Hey there

Wondering if i can put out a salt block in the winter for the deer.
The salt block is a corn flavor.
It is a 4lb salt block.

Thanks

yes but don;'t expect a LARGE draw to it
odds are rain will eat more of it than deer will LOL

I bought a bulk bag of salt and just dumped it. They will dig a big hole there trying to get it out. Probably attracts more deer than the corn feeder . But be aware some dnr are outlawing minerals sites too.

Your supplemental feeding questions are posed as though you are seeking legal advice. Instead of asking an internet forum, you need to check your local game regulations.

Hey there

sorry I should have reworded that. I just mean if it is healthy for deer as I know feeding them in the winter can cause problems.

Thanks

really no need to put salt out for deer in the winter. summer is when deer really like salt. i put out a 50 pound mineral lick in the summer. its brown in color from the minerals. deer here hit it hard.

when you add slat, or any mineral to the outdoors you have to keep in mind, A LOT of how animals react to it, is based on what minerals they have access to or not

if they DON"T need salt (X MINERAL) in there diet, most will ignore it, if minerals are missing or more rare, in the area your at, they might be more attracted to it
which is why I said, DON:"T expect a LOT of attraction to a SALT Block
I highly doubt ANY wild healthy animal will over dose on SALT just cause its out there
so I cannot see it ever harming them

so I see NO harm here, now if legal or not., that might be another issue, NO clue where your at to check more into that side of this

I live in Ontario, Canada

Yes I will look into that.

I will see if it is legal.

Thanks

I had always been told that they use the salt when they are growing antlers, not during hunting season.......Indiana does not allow any "baiting" at all. It is never illegal to put salt, or bait out. It only becomes illegal when you hunt near it.
