Hadnt planned to hunt with my rifle, i had thrown it in the truck in case i saw a yote. Spotted a buck with a broken front leg, figured it was the right thing to do, putting him down. 245y shot, 300wm, 4yo 10pt

Jake,
love that 6mm, the 95 gr ballistic tip is wicked, the 2nd buck was taken at 404 yards with a bone stock rem. 788.

I took a nice big doe in Oct in the PA senior season and a nice PA cow elk in November. I had to buy a new freezer for the overflow. I am done hunting deer and I still have a buck and doe tag.

Most things I've heard on the 788s have been very positive . I haven't had the joy of shooting one yet.

Jake,
imagine a 243 that's 200 fps faster, back about 1978, the Remington ammo catalogue listed the 6mm as the flattest shooting cartridge Remington loaded, edging out the 264 win mag by a couple inches at 500 yards. took a lot of years to find a LH 788 in 6mm. stock was oil soaked and spongy so I did replace it with an aftermarket from rifle stocks.com, and it shoots like a dream. if you get a chance to buy one, do it, they were discontinued around 1990 I've had 4, shot a bunch of others and never saw one that didn't shoot very well, just not a good rifle to hotrod if you reload, the 9 rear locking lugs are prone to bolt lug compression if shot over pressure.

My son shot a couple does. Didn't have a buck worth shooting show itself.
