Are you trying anything new this year?
 

With deer seasons rapidly approaching across the country, are you going to be trying something different this year? Maybe trying out a new type of weapon, using a different broadhead/bullet, or hunting in a new area?

I'm planning on finally harvesting a deer with my S&W Model 460 and CVA Optima V2 pistol, seeing as all of my handgun kills to date have been with my 300 Win Mag Encore. Both have had some improvements made since last season to allow them to reach their full potential (a trigger job for the 460, and a variable power scope for the Optima.)

I am hunting deep in the woods in the early season instead of hunting near our food plots. So hard in the evening, as the plots will be full of deer. In my stand back deep, I may see nothing for days. But......that big buck doesn't show up in the plots until after midnight. I want to get that big boy. My son got a doe last weekend, so we have meat. So, I am going to go with the feast or famine approach and see nothing while knowing where all the deer are.

I’m going to use my dan Wesson 44 mag more this year and hope for a deer or hog I’ve built a 280 AI I’m gonna use as well good luck to everyone this year stay safe

Hunting a new 80 acre plot of land. No trail cams and nothing to go off of but aerials. Going in blind and I'm excited about that "unknown". I'll have boots on ground the day before opener to find my way to some existing stands.
Because I'm going in blind (more or less) and traveling in from out of state (in CO, heading to northern MN for whitetail opener) I'm having an internal debate of what rifles to bring. I have a 338 Win Mag that I haven't had a chance to hunt with yet and while it's extremely overkill, I have a box of 200 grain SSTs that may just get called into action. I have a .308 and a nice little 7-08 but I'm itching to get that 338 out on a hunt!lol Probably going to bring them all, along with a 7mm WSM for any long open field shots...

Nope. I'll go to the same place I went last year near Paris Tx and I'll help a landowner manage his herd by taking a couple does and maybe a hog. I may use my T/C Contender in 7mmTCU rather than my 9.3x62 But I've shot several deer with the handgun before so that technically won't be "something new."

I'm to the point where I don't experiment much. What works I figured out a long time ago and I don't try to fix something that works.

yeah man!! been using the same 30-06 for 30+ years..for some stupid reason(late life crisis) i have a couple new (to me) rifles...tikka .260 rem and old rem.788 in .243...both shoot lights out..i usually fill some tags w/ bow but it just ain't workin out this year...good luck to all and have fun

Everything the same for me. Bow... Mathews, deer rifle Ruger 30-06 UL, ML will be a TC .50 cal. Most of my hunting will be easier near home this year since I sold my mountain cabin and land. My wish is a couple for the freezer which is a normal goal for me.

Hunting a new OOS quota draw public land with the cousins and brothers. gonna be a blast if we kill any deer that will be a nice bonus. No new weapons. Hunting several new WMAs here in FL. But I got the old faithful WMAs also.
