Deer are enjoying this warm spell

Took a ride today and saw allot of deer out in the mid afternoon. Saw 5 near a local military base running back and forth trying to find a way into the fence. Stopper and watched them for a bit until they finally found the hole they were looking for. Saw lots of fields with several deer out feeding. And one field with around 30 deer feeding. Don't know what it was about this afternoon, but between 2 and 4 pm, they were out enjoying the sunny, warm Ohio weather.

Here there hasn't been any snow for a couple weeks. The deer every afternoon about 3:00 PM migrate to the hay fields to eat and then lay on the sunny side of the hills to chew their cuds. I have a group of 6 that lay behind my pole barn about every day. Another group of 8 that lay on a south facing hill side in the woods.

Where my brother lives only the hill tops on the south and west sides are bare. Says they are covered with deer about all day long but is a good 10F cooler there than here.

Been warmer than normal here also, for this time of year. The difference is no game moving, even the birds are scarce (the ones that stick around all year). Even the outside house Cats are scarce where I live. I've seen nothing in the open. Kind of like they are all hunkered down for some reason.

Kind of spooky.

Four years out of five we get a snow storm sometime the first couple of weeks in February, not so far this year. The winter has been medium this year, not the coldest, not the warmest.

Maybe just a fluke, maybe the wildlife knows something we don't?

It was in the 70s here Saturday and Sunday. I have a field not far from my house that had a herd of about 50 in it on Saturday.

It's been in the high 60's/low 70's quite often this "winter."

We're all about to get slammed by a massive blizzard in March, aren't we?

Wouldn't be the first time. The worst snows I have seen in my lifetime have been in March.

Same here, Wolf. It didn't even feel like we had a winter here.

I haven't seen any deer but the turkeys seem to be everywhere in Kansas

Driving U.S. 58 in VA. back from I-85 in NC, wasn't really looking but saw 3 deer in one field and 5 in another. Daytime temps. usually in the 30's or 40 this time of year have been in the 60's and low 70's. Strange winter!
