Looked like this guy was going to loose the eye completely as it was hanging out.
He was a tough critter just going about his business like it didn't bother him at all. |
Probably did him a huge favor Rock. If it was "hanging out" like you say, he might have ended up with an infection in the brain. Like you, I've seen quite a few with blasted eyes but almost every one I've seen with the eye "torn out" didn't last the winter. The ones with just a hole in the eyeball and it shriveled up were "fine" though they did seem to have a bit of a problem navigating through cover at speed. Saw one dang near center a big old pine tree as he was chasing a hot Doe. Turned right into it!! Dang near the funniest thing I ever saw in the woods. Was laughing to hard to shoot the poor fella. Busted off 3 of his tines and loped off all wobble legged. Was hilarious.

Nice buck. Congrats. I held out for the big 10 all archery and told myself I would shoot anything 6-pointer or bigger in rifle. Well, I shot a 7-pointer on opening day. :D
It was great, though. 10 guys in camp, including my 86 year old dad and 14 year old son. It's more fun when you get to bring a buck back to a full camp. :) |
I would have had a tough time letting him walk the first time I saw him !
That's the kind of deer, that the minute you see him you say; "shooter buck". Congrats Rock !!! |
