Why hunters shoot relatives and friends
Why do hunters often shoot relatives and friends. Happens too many times.
Why ? They're the only people usually around the shooter. Sometimes the only one. They sometimes over hunt an area. See few deer in the area, even though it's the special place. And who notices the few deer. Friends and relatives who keep hunting the over hunted area. Many shoot in such circumstances. Who else hasn't seen any movement, in an area, for some time. They have the non-movement area down pat. Snap ones fingers and these are the people who can see some movement, even if its not a deer. They usually hunt only one area -- the special area. |
why do they do it? STUPIDITY! nothing more ,nothing less.

I read about it from time to time but have never heard of it happening locally or anywhere close. It least in my area I don't think it "happens too may times."
|
I don't think it is really a common thing. But when it does happen it is all over the news. Kind of like a kid taking a gun to school. You never hear about the millions of kids going to school everyday but when the knucklehead comes out you hear about it.

I have hunted with folks that were safe to be hunting with and some that were not. I did not go hunting again with those that I thought were not careful. I know two that were shot by hunters, one a bird hunter that lost his sight and another that was shot by his son with a 30-30 and lived after a long hospital stay. We should all practice safety. No game is worth shooting someone or being shot.

The number of hunting-related shootings has been trending down over the last several years. I think the hunter education classes and laws concerning wearing blaze-orange on public lands has helped bring these accidents down. Also, many East Texas counties have went to 13"+ and spike rules to allow the deer a chance to grow older. In a round-about way, I think that has helped bring shooting accidents down too!
The old, "brown is down," doesn't cut it anymore! You actually have to see the deer long enough to judge it now or you could wind up with a hefty fine! |
I own the land my friends and I hunt on plus a lot of public land surrounding it--I have kicked out a number of "hunters " from camp for various stupid reasons All for carelessness carrying gun on shoulder pointed at person behind you, shooting at running deer while walking in a group, almost blowing ones head off while climbing into a stand ! Drinking while on stand They make em everyday !

1 week into NY rifle season, and 3 hunters are shot dead.

It's like everything else c you can't fix it some people are stupid and careless and make the rest of us look bad, some of the best bird hunting was off 35 by the speedway, but not anymore, it's "city" now . And I liked the 13 plus spread rule at first thinking more deer would grow to mature trophy status but also know as many hours are spent waiting and since a lot of hunters are in it for meat not horns so I think they will shoot them anyway . I also worry that a lot of "not wide" bucks that should be culled are going to breed and multiply . I was blessed with seeing a trophy buck this morning but he was on the move and I never had a chance with my bow , but honestly he didn't allow a rifle shot either , smart Ole fella, knows what time it was , got me excited again
