Bummer! I'm missing my buck permit
I was issued 2 permits by IL DNR. One an antlerless-only and one an either sex. They have always came same day in mail, in seperate envelopes. This year? One envelope. I figured maybe they had gotten smart and were saving $ by using one envelope. Nope. I just got one permit and it was the antlerless-only. I waited a while to see if it would come but it hasn't so I'll have to pay them additional money to get another permit re-issued.

I hunted it as a non resident a couple of times. Expensive place to hunt with some weird rules for applying for tags. Nice deer though.

Michigan is so easy, as an really old fart I walk into LGS, wal mart Meijer's hardware store hand them my drivers license tell them I want a combo (2 buck tags) fire arm deer license. Pay my senior $28.00 and walk out the door. My area has a 5 doe a day limit over the counter license's also same method, but you have to do it every day till you get all you want.

Vermont is real easy especially for someone over 64. A one time fee of 50 bucks buys you a lifetime hunting and fishing tag with all the appropriate tags like bear, deer, small game, archery, ML, and turkey. Those tag fees normally are around $100 for each year. The only added tag fee is if someone wants an additional archery tag. On Jan 1 each year you go to the VT F&W department web site put in your custom number, hit renew (all at no charge) and print and it all comes out on a sheet of paper. I keep a copy in the truck, boat and one in my wallet.

Yes it is but does come at an indirect cost. Vermont is a very expensive state to call home. But home is where it is at least for me. I love Vermont just the way it is.

Stories like this make me glad I live in Tennessee.

The additional money is $3 so it isn't like it's a crime. I do feel that it is their responsibiblity to get it to me. Probably lost in the USPS system somehow is my guess.

The mail brought good news today. I received my replacement either-sex firearm permit. As the rut is timed for the first firearm season I will be running over to BassPro to pick up an additional either-sex permit. The OTC permits start on sale today. 1600+ either-sex permits available for my county and 800+ antlerless-only permits.

Hey Uncle Matt, I will let you know how that 1st tag fares out for you for they sent it to my house!!!! LOL!!!! I saw a STUD of a 10ptr on Sat eve already chasing a slick head. He wasn't full heartedly chasn, but was on her hot enuf to tickle me for the 1/2hr watching them. He got within 10yds of taking a ride on the GrimReaper Express for over 20mins. Stayed at about 40yds behind some brush eatn white oaks. Sounded like he was eating rocks!!!

If I find a white oak dropping acorns I'll be dropping my butt nearby! |
Yeah, me too. I saw the two older does that were around him and the 3 yearlings last night on the other side of the strip of timber. About 200yds away. I have left all slick heads alone for the past 3 yrs to let them get back on their feet after the hard fall off of 2012/13. I may take 1 last part of gun season or maybe end of bow season if I get the notion. Maybe and old grey muzzled swamp donkey to fill my dads freezer. He don't get to get out anymore so I know he would like to have it. I always teach in my Hunter Safety class that if you want a renewable resource, you have to leave the seed givers to do so. I havent seen any yearlings in the strip for 2 years. Now I have seen 3 in 4 days. Makes me feel like I made a difference hopefully.
