Cheaper copper rifle ammo
Federal Powershok now has a line of less expensive copper big game bullets priced in the $28 price range per 20 box @ MidwayUSA. Initial loads include the 30-06 150 gr., .308 150 gr. and .270 130 gr. copper bullets. Midway presently stocks the 30-06 and 308 cartridges.

It's nice that a manufacturer has made a lead free bullet load that won't break the bank.

That is still a dollar 40 cents per bullet.
I'll stick with led till they ban it and hunt with me to make sure I shoot 5 dollar bills at deer. :D Al |
Copper rifle ammo...
is still an oxy-moron.

Handload. Ammo is much cheaper when you roll your own. You can buy bullets like the Hornady GMX (lead free bullets) from someplace like Midway for less than 60 cents each. Add in a primer, some powder, some case lube and a fired brass and you have a round for less than 80 cents.
The only factory centerfire ammo I use anymore is the Seller & Bellot 131 gr load for my 6.5x55 Swedish. I can't beat it with any handload and several years ago Natchez had a sale on it and I laid in a bunch at less than $9 a box. But I keep the brass so after it runs out I'll handload that as well. |
True, but a lot of people seem to be put off by the initial cost and fear of making a catastrophic mistake.
