how much meat?
on average, how much usable meat is there on a deer that field dresses at 150 lbs? thanks

RE: how much meat?
You will get approx. 65% of eatable meat from most animals!

RE: how much meat?
A program here in WV says the average deer provides 35.5 pounds of meat.
That sure seems low to me! |
RE: how much meat?
If it is boned out meat on a deer, the 35 to 40 pounds may be right for an average. Good fed out steers will run about 60% of cut, bone in meat.

RE: how much meat?
the guy that did my deer this year only got me around 20 lbs of meat, im pretty pissed on that low amount.

RE: how much meat?
The 35lb average is right on according to my experience. I" ve been butchering my own deer for years, usually shooting 1.5 yr old bucks and does. The total is invariably around 35lbs, give or take (boned).

RE: how much meat?
20 lbs sounds low no matter how you slice it!

RE: how much meat?
I butcher all of my own deer and consistently get just over 50% of clean, deboned and gristle free meat from the dressed weight. Based on my experiences, you should' ve received about 80 lbs of meat--more if it' s not deboned. You' ve been robbed by the processor and I' d go back there and get it resolved.

RE: how much meat?
I shot a deer with 165lb not dressed so probably 135 dressed and it gave me 62 pounds of debonded meat.

RE: how much meat?
I got sick of getting ripped off too. So I learned to cut my own. Really didn' t get much more meat, but saved a few bucks and it' s all cut how I want it.
