Dead deer
I found a deer, a small doe and it was dead its rear end looked like it was scooped out and there was no other sign of injury what would have caused it? we live in a residential area so theres not coyotes around? why would only the one part be gone if something was eating on it why not more? It wouldn' t be caused by a buck could it?

RE: Dead deer
Sounds like it was hit by a car and an animal got to it. Just cause your in a residential area doesn' t mean there aren' t any predators around. I' ve seen a couple like that. Could it have been there long enough for maggots to do that?, as that is one of the first places a fly can lay its eggs.

OLIE5, I AM FROM KY ALSO.(CENTRAL PART) EVEN THOUGH YOU LIVE IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA I WOULD BET MONEY THERE ARE COYOTES AROUND. IF DEER LIVE THERE SO DO COYOTES.

RE: Dead deer
Sounds like dogs to me. I' m not sure why but a dog will eat the butt right out of a deer every time. I have no idea how it died. Maybe got hit by a car and ran to where you found it. A lot of times when a deer gets hit by a car there is are no visible injuries but run off to die from internal injuries. Since you said this was in a residential area my guess is that dogs are what chewed on it.

RE: Dead deer
Coyotes are everywhere. They are getting more common in cities. I saw on the Los Angles news that there are coyotes in some parts of the city there.

RE: Dead deer
Weve had coyotes get dogs right off the patio
they adapt real fast!!:D |
RE: Dead deer
Yotes are very elusive, which is why the average suburban dweller doesn' t even know they have the night time pests. I' d bet that the deer was hit by a car, had internal bleeding, died, and was knawed on by coyotes.
