Would You Eat This Deer?

In SW. WI a guy got an 11 pt buck. Butchered it up, wrapped, sausage, the whole works. Then got a positive CWD test result back. He chucked the meat. Would you? Not trying to start something here, I am just wondering if any have eaten a CWD pos deer. See http://www.jsonline.com/sports/outdo...360172381.html for the story.

I wouldn't . It would creep me out and not be able to enjoy it

I wander if he processed it himself. Specifically the sausage, around here if you have summer sausage made at the local processor you dont get you own meat back so that would mean someone else would end up with the cwd positive meat and not even know it.

I have to wonder how many in SW WI don't bother with the test? From what I am told, the test is not cheap. My brother no longer hunts down there because of the cost of the test.

There's a long incubation time with CWD, and although the claim is that it can't be transmitted to humans, i would not eat a deer infected with CWD! The prion does not die easily, it goes on and on and on!

Cwd

I'd get rid of it.

It wouldn't bother me a bit to eat it after reading all there is to know about CWD. Hey, I'm 68 and if I bit the dust because of CWD I'd say it was just my time, LOL!

I wouldn't eat it

Absolutely not. The best way to not contract CWD is to avoid the source(s) of transmission as best you can-as well as areas. While it's after the fact, now, the processing utensils would also be a cause for concern due to potential for cross-contamination.

not unless I were starving, in which case I would eat the rear end out of a dead Rino.
