SHEDS???
 

This spring my hunting buddy found half of a nice 10pt. shed in a bean field about
30 yards off the fence row where I have a stand. This fence row is about 20 to 30 feet wide and separates two fields, One is corn the other is bean and the big woods is about 200 or 300 yrds away. This is a heavily traveled area for deer. Do you think this buck will still be in the area this season? I know there are several bucks larger than that one out there that we saw last year and no one shot so they will hopfully be there also? Any opinions???? Suggestions on hunting them???
I' ve seen a ton of doe already out of this stand and next to the other stand just across the field.

Unless someone has taken that buck, he should still be in the same area. As far as hunting him, I would try to locate some scrapes and rubs, then try to find his bedding area and set up close to it where he is traveling to and or from the bedding area. Good Luck!! -- CDH

When rut comes around if the does are near Mr. Buck will be in tow. I agree though best odds at tracking down a buck or bucks is close to their bedrooms and finding rubs, scrapes and other buck sign are a good place to start. When choosing a bedroom stand you must know approx. how far they will be bedded and their travel routines and then set up with the wind in your favor. Spooking bucks from their safety zone is not desired, so be careful, move slowly and think while hunting this area...they make " one mistake a year" so make sure it isn' t him connecting with you but rather you connecting with him.

a good way to find out their routine is to set out a trail cam or a trail timer
