LOST DEER
 

Last night one of those perfect cool nights five does come straight to me to eat on a red oak. 22 yards no problem let an arrow fly right behind the shoulder about 3-4 inches but a little low. Found arrow and it was barely bent so iknow i didn' t hit bone or the rib cage, i have killed over thirty deer with my bow and this one puzzles me. I saw where the deer went into the pines aout fifty yards away. Got down, found arrow blood from one end to the other but no blood on the ground between me and the pines. Got to the pines and it looked like you poored paint for over 120 yards, then it just stopped. Where is she?

that sucks...........wish i knew where they go......had a couple good trails and then nothing....you' d think you' d find a change of direction, but noooooooooo..........

Was there any fat or tallow on the arrow? Probably not since the arrow was red from end to end. If you punctured the chest cavity, she is a gonner. If not she' ll bleed like heck and be all right. Since you were in a tree stand, the angle might have been a factor also in putting the arrow through the brisket. But if no fat then I don' t know. I always go to water after I lose the trail. It seems they get a fever or just want to soak the wound. That is always my last straw, find some stream or pond or forest puddle to look in and all around. Hope you find her or I hope she lives.

No fat or tallow on the arrow, pure bright red blood, but there was a little white hair on the knock

I keep records of the deer I track for myself and others and those that have been hit through the brisket bleed like crazy for 100 or so yards then it peters out or stops all together. Bright red blood sounds about right also. Big smears of bright blood to be exact. Only thing for you is the lack of fat. But, there are no absolutes. The white hair also says that the hair came from the bottom of the body. I' d still check out the water just in case but I bet you' ll see her again. Good luck.

Sometimes they just disappear. Sucks but it happens... Better luck next time. Glad to hear you didn' t give up on her like so many others do.

Any other hunters in the area? How long did it take to reach the end of the trail? What are the chances of someone dragging the deer out before you arrived on the scene? From the sounds of the hit it should be down.

[&:] Your right Mdbohuntr it was a great shot. I didn' t even have to remove the arrow either. It was a small doe probably a yearling so it was easy to drag it out quickly. And I thought he was a trophy hunter! [&:]

that sux that you lost the doe. my friend gut shot a buck a couple of weeks ago and we searched for 2 days and couldnt find it. thats just part of hunting.

Yes this harry goof is about as entertaining as a bad case of hemorrhoids.
