First deer with bow!

Took my first deer this season with my new bow last night. Two photo' s of her http://photos.thedieselstop.com/show...t=1&thecat=500 and http://photos.thedieselstop.com/show...t=1&thecat=500. Estimated weight; 100 pounds. A " baldy" but at any rate, once I get another, I' m free to pursue my two bucks for the season. Then, as many more does as I have room for in the freezer. We have an unlimited limit here in Maryland for does....

Got off work and hurried over to a private property to hunt before it got dark. Climbed about 20 feet up with my tree stand, as soon as I got situated, the deer started coming out of the woods. Three does started coming up behind me then got spooked, about 1/2 hour later three more does started coming towards me on my left. It was getting pretty dark and I was worried that I couldn' t see the pin on the doe' s shoulder. Luckily, my sight picture cleared with enough detail and light for an instant, and I took the shot from about 15 yards away from the base of the tree. Good shot placement; didn' t achieve pass thru, but I got her in the heart from the way that she jumped. She trotted off in a semi-circle and went into some thick brush about 50 yards away. I stood motionless on the stand and after 3-4 minutes passed, I heard her crash. Waited for about a 1/2 hour for her to bleed and expire, then came out of the tree and recovered and dressed her.

Her two companions ran off immediately after I whacked her, but they then came back and hung around for about an hour. Could' ve taken another but we' re limited to one per day.

I' d like to thank all of you on this Hunting board whom have posted advice that I have used to acquire my first deer with. Thank you!

Kindest Regards,

-Will in Maryland

Congrats!! I don' t bow hunt but I imagine it has to be a blast to take a deer so close. Most of my shots are 200 yards plus but have thought about getting into the bow scene and how much fun it must be. Good Luck!! -- CDH

CDH, you gotta get in bowhunting!
It' s the biggest rush being within feet of a wiley old whitetail and beating them on their own turf with a short range, low powered weapon. I love guns, but the best deer hunting for me will always involve broadheads.

Bulzeye, I have a few friends that bowhunt and I invite them to come hunting on my land with me. I get a kick out of seeing them take deer or turkeys with a bow. Even though I don' t bow hunt, I have stands set up for bow hunters. They keep trying to talk me into it and I probably will someday. I do a lot of handgun hunting and some of the calibers are short yardage shots such as a .44 Mag (Out to 65 yards) but it is nothing like doing it with a bow. Good Luck!! -- CDH

Bruce Willis!!!! HA, thats a good one. Nice doe. I am trying to get into it as well. I have a bow, a tree stand but no land. I have been practicing and Saturday I will try it out of a tree stand. After reading all these stories I get so jealous.
