How Old is this 11-point?

He looks like maybe 3.5yo old to me. What do you guys think?

MaineRida 09-28-2015 04:35 PM

3.5 is a good guess, could be 4.5 but definitely not 2.5 or it's in a pen getting the best nutrients available.
Could be a 12 pt if that nub in the beam G4 is over an inch. Good luck with him....

I'm with MaineRida, looks like a 3.5 year old.

BarnesX.308 09-29-2015 08:54 AM

Yeah, I was thinking 3.5 as well. Some guys might say he'd be a real slammer at 5.5 or 6.5 and I agree. But he would be my career best as he is. :D

It would take a better man then me to let the buck walk !!! :D

Awww heck Barnes, that little fellers nads aint even dropped yet :D Let that pup walk. Maybe get a little frisky with the women folk for a year or 2! (you do know I'm kidding right?) He's a beauty, and a combination of a fine rack on the wall and still good eating! That's a hard combination to find! On the properties I'm managing here in IL I would let him walk as he looks to be of a superior gene pool and I'd want him breeding till he was at least 6.5 but under other circumstances that would be a buck I would be more than happy to let an arrow fly to! ESPECIALLY in PA. Bucks that age with that development are few and far between there. He probably passed on his genes last year. More than likely was a brute then too!

Well I'd say he's a 3.5 too. But being that I hunt public land, if he walked by my stand he wouldn't be getting any older.

No matter how old he is he would be a Vermont trophy. Not many like that running around here. What a beauty.

BarnesX.308 09-29-2015 01:55 PM

We only shoot a handful of the bucks we see each year so there's a good chance he does get another year. :D

The picture is from a food plot and it's at night. There are two good size fields we plant an an orchard. Surrounding those fields are about 2000 acres of completely overgrown clear cut. Jungle thick with no visibility. So these bucks have the upper hand. The pieces that weren't cut are thick mountain laurel, swamp and cliff. Tough hunting.

If that deer is a 3.5 would you say this deer is also 3.5?

BarnesX.308 09-29-2015 04:07 PM

Soap - maybe. That looks like a chunky, young buck.

Upper state ny that could be 2.5, if not it could be 3.5. The body is in the range but the antlers are more typical to a northern 2.5. Where I do not hunt posted private land both are on the wall:D
