Nice Pennsylvania 11-pointer

Got a little surprise on the trail cam today. A nice 11 pointer. 5X5 with double brow tine on one side. How old do you think he is? Nice frame. I love the wide spread and long, sweeping beams.

Mate great pic, loving the wide spread

Good looking buck. I would guess 4.5 years old. Reason being he has a slight "pot" belly but his back isn't swayed yet.

BarnesX.308 08-10-2015 04:16 PM

I guess he could get bigger in a year or two but he's pretty sweet right now. :D I would love to get a crack at him. He just started showing up last week.

Dang he is a stud!

Rifle season is after Thanksgiving. I'm hoping there is a TWANG TWANG sooner than that. :D Hopefully on October 3rd.

Sure would look good on your wall (and in your freezer)!

BarnesX.308 08-19-2015 08:24 AM

1.5 months to go. :D

Oldtimr 08-19-2015 12:17 PM

That is a good en.

Fordman88 08-19-2015 12:57 PM

Hard to tell maybe 3.5 years old. Was a rough winter so can't just go off body size.

Oldtimr 08-19-2015 01:47 PM

body size has nothing to do with the winter, they don't shrink, they lose weight.

Kinda yes and kinda no there oldtimr. Remember, older bucks have that "beer gut" and a sway to them. If it was a hard winter, they may or may not have that particular age identifier. They may also have lost some muscle mass in a hard winter making them look a little "sleeker" and younger than what they actually are. Not really having that "bull dog" look to them if you know what I mean.

BarnesX.308 08-20-2015 05:32 AM

We did have a couple bad winters back-to-back. But the deer seem pretty healthy now. I have seen a couple of pretty portly bucks already (see pic of the 8-pointer). Over the winter, we put out many bales of alfalfa so they hopefully went into the spring in decent shape.
