Scam City...

Whats the deal with all the scamming going on in the forums.. starting to see more scams than actual threads. Is there a fix for it?

I assume you are referring to what we call Spammers selling pills and other garbage. The site gets hit quite a bit by them and the Mods try to delete and ban them when they appear. The thing you can do if you see one is to click on the yellow Alert triangle below their username and when the box pops up just type Spam or Spammer in it and hit send. That helps keep the Mods up on things so they can remove them. I do that pretty much every morning the first thing when I come onto the site. This past week the site was hit by a bunch of Spammers.

It is a problem and Admin has been working on it without as much success as pretty much everyone (Admin included) would like to see. As Topgun pointed out, the spammers are hitting this site pretty hard. Whitetail hunting forum seems to get hit hardest, likely because it's the top (first) forum listed and thus apparently a default forum for spammers. As a mod, it's a PITA since all of us pretty much spend at least 15-30 minutes a day when we first log in banning these spammers and then moving their spam to a special Admin-Mod -Only forum where IT looks through the spam posts to see if they can figure out anything more to prevent further spam. I'd post more on how much of a PITA this is but I just logged on and have a bunch of spam to deal with. Did I mention how much I dislike spammers and spambots? :bash:

The problem with them, is that they just send again from another ip address. My puter gets hit regularly and no matter how many times I block them, I still get a pile of them in my junk folder. I too hit the alert icon on here when I find them. I also ban them on another site where I am a mod. They are a PITA that will always be around, and it can keep us busy trying to stay ahead of them.

Spammers suck. That's about all there is to it. They are parasites just like tele-marketers. I'd love to see both practices outlawed but have no idea how they would go about it.

Some computer geek could get rich if they would write and sell a program whereby if you received spam you could attach that program somehow so it would be automatically sent back to the spammer that would irreparably crash the spammers computer. Spammig would stop in a hurry.

Why yes they would. :s4:

So get started Cal, LOL!

I wish I had those kind of computer programming skills. Computer crime and its' prevention is a huge industry. Just not one of my skill-sets.
