a bear did that
|
I don't set up trail cams that far from my house
But I just mite this yr. |
We need a tie breaker 3 bears 3 deer 1 mtn. Lion.
|
I say a big old buck. Like others stated the bear marks I seen on trees where more dianogler.
|
Allow me to revise my statement from the other day. If that was a bear, it would have to be dang small one to make a scrape that low. And would have to have some mighty thick claws to make that mark. So the body to claw size doesn't even come close to adding up. For 2, as I mentioned previously, there are up and down marks beside the main deep mark. Now correct me if I am wrong here, but a bear doesn't scrap up and down while marking a tree.. It reaches up and pulls down and usually a good bit on the diagonal.

Put another vote down for a decent size buck making those and probably with his brow tines.
|
Bears do scratch vertical but I still dont think that is a bear. If it is, it may have issues with his paw as most markings I see you will always find at least 2-3 claw markings consistent with each other. These are sporadic and uneven so will vote something else.
P.S. Have also seen bears claw waste height as well, most fall into head height or above with others going from above head height to the ground. Then have found others that where all at the base of the tree, claw and dig marks there are for insects. |
I think deer. Given the location, and height from the ground.

Well I sure would have liked to have seen this buck.
Because I have only seen one big 8 pt. In over 40 yrs. Of hunting this farm. Most of our deer are spikes four pt. And 6 pts and the horns are small at that. |
