Any idea on age here?
I saw this guy with my binoculars right after deer season ended and wanted to get a better view of him. There were not any decent trees around for a camera so I improvised and made a portable trail camera stand out of a sawhorse and dumped 100 pounds of corn and some apples in front of it.
He doesnt appear to be that old. His neck doesnt look all that big and neither does his body. He just doent look very filled out. This is SC so its not like hes been struggling through a harsh winter. If I plant a nice food plot in this spot during the spring and my farmer comes in and plants 60 acres of peanuts can he be even bigger come deer season? ![]() ![]() ![]() |
There is no reason he shouldn't unless he gets killed before next season.

damn found another one. The coming out the woodowrk since deer season ended. Probably older since neck looks beefier. Nice and wide need to thicken up that rack a little.

still the same spot...
he looks pretty young as well ![]() |
First one I would say 2.5 to 3.5 year old. The second deer is a better buck and probably a year older than the first one.

looks like Buck #4 showed up although I could be wrong.
![]() ![]() sorry about all the pics im just posting them as I find them. 12 gigs is a lot lol. This little guy I found interesting. The other half of his rack is on my picnic table and it's also 4pts. He has to be only 1.5 and already an 8? need to beef him up and see what he looks like in 4 years. ![]() |
You have a couple of bucks there with some nice beefy bodies and decent racks that should be shooters next year IF you see them during the season.

I think #4 is the same as #1. But they all look like they'll be nice deer next season

The brow tines look exactly the same and in both pics the buck has 5 points on his left and 4 on the right. Just my opinion.

took a 8 and a 10 in this same field last season. Must have been a dozen different bucks in the span of 10 days on the camera. Sometimes 5 in one frame. Needless to say theres a stand over looking that camera as of yesterday. There already was a stand over looking this field but its about 315 to this spot and Im just not comfortable shooting that distance. I mean why take a bad shot when you can just plop another stand 50 yards away. Also going to plant a foodplot in that corner of the field come April.
This winter has been very mild here and I want to throw some grass seed out but I dont want to have something start growing then a late frost take it out. |
