RE: how do you count the rack
I would count it as a 5x5 but I would also add a rough B&C score to give the person a good idea of what the rack is really like.An example would be a 150 B&C class 5x5.Just saying 10 point could be a young very small buck or it could be a large trophy buck so the 10 point description really means little.Usually when one hears 10 point in my area the person is trying to make a smaller buck appear larger than it really is.

Say I get a deer that has 4 points on each side....if I' m talking to people that live in this part of the country, it' s a 4-point. If I' m on this or any other board, where there are people from different regions, I say I got a 4x4. That way, everybody understands. If I get a deer that is 4 on one side and 3 on the other, I say I got a 3x4, as that explains it pretty well. In this part of the country, if I was to call a 4x4 deer an 8-point, it would be assumed it had 8-points on each side. And I' d also be called a liar! Oh, and here, we don' t count eye-guards (browtines).

In my part of the country, a whitetail with 5 on each side would be a 10 point, and a mule deer with 5 on each side would be a 5x5. I think it all depends on what part of the country you are from.

HaGar - Same here, if i said I got a 6x6 people would think i tagged an Argo!
It' s a regional thing. Around here the first question people ask is " what did it weigh?" , and then they ask how many points it has.

Around here its' 3x4 or 2x1. I don' t think anyone has every asked for weight except when we hunt Elk. And then it' s only because you can only shoot spike bulls so everyone already knows you got a 1x1 or 1x2 (only has to be spike on 1 side).

Whitetail: 10 point
Mule deer: 5x5
For a whitetail, I usually say something like: " I killed a heavy horned 18 inch 10 point" or for mule deer: " I killed a thin racked 24 inch 5x5" .
Boone and crockett score: What' s that? Just kidding, I know what it is, but don' t score my racks. They are trophies to me, so what does it matter if they " score" better than someone elses. Now if someday I think I kill a world record, I will have it scored!!!
