Openng day in PA
 

I had my 14 grandson with me when we climbed into the treestand at 6:am on Monday. At 7am doe started to appear as they always do, first one appeared where there was none, then another, then another until there were around 8 or nine with in 40 yards on a grass road in front of us. I just started to tell my grandson to take the first doe that turned broadside to walk down into the ravine where they were headed. All of a sudden I saw huge white antlers coming out of the brush behind the doe. I put my rifle up and had him broadside at 40 yards crosshairs behind his shoulder, the doe now were walking down into the ravine which is 35 yards across to a wooded hill on the other side. I heard myself telling my grandson to take the buck. By the time he got lined up on him the buck started down into the ravine and was in and out of brush, when my grandson shot he missed clean, the doe now were going up the hill on the other side of the ravine and there was no shot nor a shot at the buck. In 55 years of hunting, that was the bggest buck I ever had dead to rights, 10 pts, heavy and wide and he was over 200 lbs on the hoof. Since my grandson only had one day to hunt because he plays ice hocky on two teams I gave him the shot, I don't reget there is still almost two weeks left in the season. I am sure that was a buck neither one of us will forget.

Well that is 90% of it anyway.

That is what I always say when something goes wrong with a big one.

If I'm out there and that big ole buck comes along Ive really already achieved 90% of what I'm out there to achieve.

Sounds like a good day OT. My sister shot a 16" 7 point with me right beside her on monday. Good day.
