Rookie Mistake
And I've been doing this for 15 years.
I hunt the top of a mountain, and I know many other guys hunt from the bottom of the same mountain. I walked in to my spot, (about 1 hour later than usual) and the wind was behind me. I walk in from the top, heading down hill about 1/3 mile down. All while the wind was at my back. As I walk deeper and deeper in, down hill, I keep hearing gun shots from the bottom. :busted: Yep, my scent pushed every deer down hill, and it sounded like a war zone. At least 20 shots. :busted: So the area is shot out for the season....... Time to hunt somewhere else........................... At least I put food on someone else's table. |
If theres lots of deer they will be back...I wouldnt say its a bust.
They will be back the next day.
They are all dead, how are they coming back ??
There will be other deer for sure. What held those deer (and I doubt they shot all of them) will attract and hold other deer.
Lots of shots usually means they are NOT hitting the deer.
I had one guy I know say all the deer migrated to an area south about 10-12 of where I hunt...because he never saw anything...I didnt want to tell him its cuz he didnt shower and never stfu...deer hear/smell him a mile away..
I agree I hear lots of shots this way and don't see many deer being brought out. I'd go back in there and hunt

One shot=meat Two shots=maybe meat Three+ shots=missed deer. Rest it a day or two and slip back in. |
