Rookie Mistake

And I've been doing this for 15 years.

I hunt the top of a mountain, and I know many other guys hunt from the bottom of the same mountain.

I walked in to my spot, (about 1 hour later than usual) and the wind was behind me. I walk in from the top, heading down hill about 1/3 mile down. All while the wind was at my back.

As I walk deeper and deeper in, down hill, I keep hearing gun shots from the bottom. :busted:

Yep, my scent pushed every deer down hill, and it sounded like a war zone. At least 20 shots. :busted:

So the area is shot out for the season....... Time to hunt somewhere else...........................
At least I put food on someone else's table.

If theres lots of deer they will be back...I wouldnt say its a bust.

They will be back the next day.

They are all dead, how are they coming back ??

There will be other deer for sure. What held those deer (and I doubt they shot all of them) will attract and hold other deer.

Lots of shots usually means they are NOT hitting the deer.

I had one guy I know say all the deer migrated to an area south about 10-12 of where I hunt...because he never saw anything...I didnt want to tell him its cuz he didnt shower and never stfu...deer hear/smell him a mile away..

I agree I hear lots of shots this way and don't see many deer being brought out. I'd go back in there and hunt

And you know this how? Are you trying to say all 20 shots hit meat? Sorry, not buying it. It is nearly impossible to completely shoot an area out. Deer have been eluding and surviving hunters for thousands of years. if they aren't in a fence, then they didn't all get shot.

One shot=meat
Two shots=maybe meat
Three+ shots=missed deer.

Rest it a day or two and slip back in.
