Bow Mount Decoy
 

My buddy went out this weekend with a new plan of attack. He saw an idea for a bow mounted fabric decoy of just a whitetail bucks head. He managed to half ass make his own out of a decoy he already had and had great success with it.

He brought a young 8 point in to 7 yards! The deer scraped the ground and everything. He drew his bow back, but decided not to shoot. The deer was so entranced by the decoy hanging off of his bow that he didn't even notice my buddy drawing back and then letting off!

He had another encounter later on in the evening as well. He had a mature 10 point at 30 yds! My buddy again pulled back and took a shot without the deer caring. He was in full view of the deer! And......He missed! He had moved away from his quiver about 5 yrds to get a clear shot. He kept his bow in front of him and shuffled back to his quiver to get another arrow and the deer stayed put! Another shot in the dirt and the deer finally spooked off.

The first deer was downwind of him...the second should have known better! He said he was shaking like a leaf both times! I can't imagine being on the ground that close with a buck locked in on a decoy and not even caring about your movement! There is a company called Heads Up Decoys that sells them. I plan on making my own as they are rather pricey for a budget hunter like myself.

I can't wait to get back out there!

I wonder if this will work any other time other than pre-rut and rut. Thoughts?

If you get a buck crazy enough with the rut, you may be the one that winds up with a hole in you. I assume the thing is for hunting from the ground since a deer in a tree would not make sense.

It is a lightweight attachment for your bow meant for spot stalking on the ground. You are correct OldTimer...it wouldn't make much sense to use it in a tree! They have some really cool videos on the Heads Up Decoy website! One whitetail gets to about 2 yds of the camera man and shooter and nearly tramples the guy! Sounds like the ULTIMATE HUNTING RUSH to me! Call me dumb, but how many people can say they almost/did get into a fight with a deer or shot one from 5 or less yds from the ground! Haha!
