That would be my guess. I guess they look different in different parts of the country. The older bucks Ive killed did not have sagging bellies at all.

My buddy also killed one that was confirmed 7 years old and he was the same way. broad chest and even shorter in the hind end with no sagging belly what so ever.

Also depends on the time of year. You would be hard pressed to find any buck where I'm at with a sagging belly right now. They are well into rut and in top form. Lean and mean right now. All pumped up in the chest and neck making the hind end look small.


Last years is the only one I have a good full body picture of as an example. No sag anywhere on this deer....solid muscle.

No sag in his back either.

I'd also expect his horns to have heavier mass, if he was +/- 5 years (like the deer in the other photo).


Mature - sure, just not fully mature.

Still got some growing to do IMO.
