PB Muzzleloader Deer
''Hunters in the know let young bucks grow." I like ODWC's new slogan. Had a great hunt Oct. 29th on the WMA I manage. Shot this dandy 5.5 to 6.5 year old and field dressed 125. A good buck for my area. Good mass and love the chocolate antlers. Due to the ice storms during last years muzzleloader and gun season I have seen more ''better bucks this year than any other year before.

Yes, weighed it on the scale I use for the controlled hunts on the WMA. We have poor soils in this area so nutrients are not the best and from the history I have read on this area when deer were restocked back in the 50's and 60's they came from the Corpus Christi area of Texas thus small body genetics. Last years best buck off the WMA was an 11 point 7.5 yr old weighing 165. He had been hanging out on the prison property side for quite a few years to make it to that age and weight. Prison personnel are able to hunt the prison property and set up feeders which probably helped with his weight. Just came across the fence line at the wrong time during one of the controlled hunts. Baiting is not allowed on the WMA.
