I always considered it synonymous with high-fence hunting too.

True, but I've seen ranches where there were no high fences but the deer would practically eat out of your hand.
It varies a lot from place to place.

No legit hunter uses the word "Canned". It is a horrible term, "Canned" and "Hunting" should never be used in the same sentence by a hunter with morals. I hate even saying "High Fenced" and "Hunting" in the same sentence!

Like others, I thought it was a condescending term around the hunting world also referring to high fence. I've never heard this term used around any hunting camp, forum, outfit, operation, or discussion that I've ever been associated with. ??
