Which caliber would you choose strictly for whitetail only and why. Want to get a tikka t3 in one of these two calibers!

Both good rounds have two 25/06, and 3 270. Both are flat shooting rounds. I like them both. If you don't hand load the 270 is easier to get factory ammo. Doing the ammo shortage I could get 270 remington corelocks at Wal-Mart fairly regularly.

A 25-06 all the way if that is all you'll use it for. I have a Ruger 25-06 that I really like for two reasons. They take a deer down with no problem and the recoil is very light compared to my 30-06s. I reload and use 50 grains of IMR 4350 behind 117 grain Hornady BTSPs. A friend ran that load through his computer program and it's around 3025 fps and 2409 ft/lbs at the muzzle and is still at 2349 fps and 1433 ft/lbs at 300 yards, which is plenty to kill any deer. IMHO the 25-06 is one of the most underrated out there!

I have a Browning BAR in .270 that I love and have killed a pile of deer with for many years. I bought a Savage 25 06 with the Accu Trigger three years ago and the poor Browning never sees the light of day anymore.

Thanks for the input guys! I was thinking a 25-06! Any of you have a tikka t3 that you like? More opinions on caliber preferences too if you have any!

My 25/06 are in a rem 700 adl and bdl. The 270 are a rem 700 adl, bdl, and a rem 760. I was at a tikka t3 in 7mm rem a couple of.years ago for my nephew. But I got him a remington 700 adl wood stock in 7mm. I know what a good rifle.the remington 700 is. I liked.the action of.the.remington better then the tikka that I handled. The tikka.seems like a fine rifle but I like the.remington 700 got 13 for a reason.

Its probably personal preference, but I did not like the Tikka action. The bolt just feels too loose to me. I know plenty of people who love them though. Like I said, its personal preference.

I did a lot of research before I bought my 25/06 and decided on the Weatherby Vanguard Sub M.O.A. That was until I found out that they don’t make a left handed bolt but a 25 /06 guaranteed to shoot a 100 yard, 3 shot sub M.O.A group and Weatherby Name and support in the 500 dollar price range should be a contender.

I ended up buying my first Savage 110 with the Accu Trigger in 25 /06. To tell the truth, its not what I wanted but I had a Texas hunt coming up that I wanted the rifle for and it’s the one I could get in time. Here is the rest of the story, I have a lot of more expensive rifles and a lot of prettier rifles but the Savage is the best shooting Out of the Box rifle I have ever bought and I have bought two more without regret.

I've owned a Tikka and an Encore in 25/06, both were nice rifles. I've also owned a T3 SS/Lam in .300WSM and a couple years back I sighted in a brand new T3 in .270 for a Buddy and both were a nice, accurate rifles (but a bit too much plastic for me). I've owned more .270s than I can honestly remember and still have at least 4 or 5. Two of my more (most?) accurate rifles happen to be M70s in .270 with each giving groups of under 1/2". Both cartridges are fine, versatile rounds, but I see a tad more upside with a .270 and it's ability to shoot heavier bullets (not necessarily needed for deer). My choice is the .270 between the two, but I would say that anyone who might be recoil sensitive might want to go with the baby '06. I should also mention that I now fill my quarter bore slot with a custom M98 in .257 Roberts.
