Shed Antler Traps

Anyone use some sort of shed antler trap with success? I've got an idea for one now but open to other possibly better ideas.

Could you please explain what you mean by that, as I have no idea what you're talking about?

Yup, a little explanation please.

The best I've heard for finding sheds is to train a dog to find them.

Staked up chicken wire with corn at the base. Deer feeds on corn and the antlers get stuck in the wire and fall off.

Or a 5 gallon bucket with corn in the bottom so the antlers get knocked off when he puts his head in.

Or 3 hale bales in a triangle with corn in the middle.

Or corn underneath a blown down tree so the branches knock the antlers off.

Never tried any of them though.

If you used very much bait it would be illegal here in Michigan because there is a very small limit up here per day.

I think the wire idea might be bad. What if his antlers aren't ready to fall off yet. Try the 5 gallon bucket or something else first.

***Good point, as they don't all lose them at a certain time. Each buck's testosterone level causes the rack to drop and each buck is different. It can be a number of weeks from when the first one to the last one sheds.

Ive never done it we are never allowed to bait any wild animals. I just walk and look but Ive heard bungee cords work pretty well and also hog panels from people that did it back before the law change. Even back then though I just walked and looked. It gives me a reason to scout.

old fasion way

Why not just do it the old fasion way, Walk trails, scout, know terrane better.Great exersize. When i do it by looking for deer sign and antlers, i feel really great when i find them.Wire would only hurt deer, bucket is to easy(if it works, i don't think so).Have fun scouting.

You could weave miles of fishing line all through the woods about 4 foot high :)
