Default Scent wafers and film canisters, which is best?

I am looking for those of you who use deer scent, do you like the scent wafers or using cotton in film canisters, and why? How many of you don' t use any scent and why? Let me know your thoughts on this. These remarks are being used for a book and outdoor show, thanks for your help..

I' m not a real big fan of using attractant scents,
guess I' ve been fairly successful " smelling
like the woods" . However, I do like the ' Fresh
Earth' and ' White Oak' scent wafers. I like to
throw them in with my clothes, besides they
are mess-free and recharge when returned
to their container.

338,

You would be very surprized to hear what some members use for sent(s). The most popular and shocking one has been the used tampon.

No I will not repeat it again....

Peraonally, I do use wafers on my cloths as for as helping could my sent my preference.

- Dirt
- Acorn

As far as attracting sents I have found that home remedies work very well, and are fun to make and come up with and accually save money.

So the good old cotton balls work great, or (unused) tampons out of the pack. Hang on the trees good and holds sent very well.

Good luck with your show and let me know if need tech. help

I like to make my own cover scents and I also collect pee etc.. from deer that I harvest. I have used the fresh earth wafers before and while scouting one day, I had a real nice 8 point buck walk within 25 feet of me before he noticed me. I don' t know who was about to have the heart attack first, me or the buck. Too bad I didn' t have a gun with me that day. By the way, I was using Fresh Earth Scent wafer that day. Good luck!! -- CDH []

I use both , and both seem to help a little . My choices are:

Fresh Earth disc
White Oak Acorn disc
Cedar disc
Single Estrous doe liquid or gel in a scent dripper or wick system
Buck urine w/tarsal in a scent dripper or wick system
The urine attractants are also sometimes used on a scent drag .

I also use:
Persimmon pulp on a hand warmer (scent only , not as bait)
Apple cider in spray bottle
Vanilla/Anise oil on wick system
Freshly pressed sorghum

I target does with food scents knowing that bucks will follow them . I mainly hunt does for the freezer , but will take a nice buck if the opportunity presents itself .

I too use the scent wafers. Fresh earth scent and white oak acorn scent. I' ll throw a couple in a trash bag with my camo and when I get to my stand I always pin one on my hat. It always seems to do the trick. As for attractants I quite using the film canister and cotton ball combination. It was just too messy. After Tinks came out with their scent in gell form I switched to that. All it takes is a little squirt on a few branches or leaves and the gell won' t evaporate quickly like the liquid will. These techniques work well for me.

I use the fresh earth scent wafers as well. They are very easy to handle, and seem to do the trick. I use doe esterous (still steamin, code blue), and I also use the scent wick. I like this because I canjust hang the wick from a tree. I can also re-fresh the wick while it hangs on the branch. This works great over scrapes.
