I read his book and the conclusion I came to was that Elmer was a pompous little Ahole and that 600 yard shot with that revolver was only one thing that led me to that conclusion.

Pompous A-hole or not, what that man has/had done for handgun hunting and the research and development of the 44 Special into the 44 Mag set the weapons industry far and above what anyone else has done. And yes, I read and have his books as well!!

The 44 Mag is a animal slaying monster!!! We have killed literally hundreds of deer, hogs and coyotes with them. My son and ex-wife witnessed me shooting a slick head the first year we had handgun deer hunting in Illinois. My son came down to help haul it out, mid January, and we walked it off twice to be sure it was right and both came up with 235yds, one shot, top of shoulder, DRT. 210grn Winchester Silvertip, H110 powder. Magnum Research Lone Eagle, 14"barrel, Burris LER scope. They are deadly to beyond that with proper shooting practice and ballistic research. We have killed coyotes past that 235.

How many grains of H110 are you throwing. I'm having trouble getting a good load with H110 for a particular 44 mag. It does not seem to like the same load my other 44s do. I am thinking of trying win 296.
