Default Gun help

Hello all, I have been hunting with 30-06 and have taken 4 animals with that gun. (only started hunting last year) This past weekend I was shooting a friend of mines 30-30 lever action and really loved it. I am not the tallest guy so being that the gun was shorter was really comfortable for me. I also liked the lighter weight of the gun. It was a marlin 336 lever action. I am thinking about getting one and just want to know what you guys think about it. Any input would be appreciated. Also if there are any other suggestions you can make about a gun that you would recommend, that would be great. I hunt in New York and from the land I hunt I dont have anything more than 100 yard shot. thats pushing it lol for my Alabama trips I will continue to use the 30-06 because of long range shots. I took a shot at 350 yards last year and dropped a hog on the spot. Thanks in advance for the help.

I killed roughly 20+ deer with the Marlin336 in 30-30. I used to hunt the catskills, nothing wrong with it at all.

My dad killed lots of deer and elk with a 30/30 and I have too but if I already had a 30/06 I sure wouldn't buy a 30/30.

If ya like it, get one. You only live once, and the thutty-thutty has killed LOTS of deer.

Go for it!

That 336 in 30-30 will take any deer you hit with it. It really shines in thick, heavy cover and I find the lever quicker to operate than a bolt and I have been using bolts for over 50 years.

The 30-30 is a good deer caliber, but the 30-06 is better. There isn't a deer alive that can survive being shot with either on as long as the bullet hits the vitals. If your shots are under 150 yards, the 30-30 is great. If they run longer, the 30-06 is the better choice.
