What Flags said is right on the money!!! I have several 30-06s and also a bolt action short barreled 30-30 Stevens for close shots in the northern MI swamp I hunt.

My Winchester 30/30 was the first deer rifle I owned and still use it.The only down side is distance,a 30/06 will go a lot further.

Love my 336 in .30-30. Have lots of other options but frequently find myself grabbing it. I just reloaded up 50 more rounds for it this past weekend, it's a fun gun. I think you better go buy one!

30 30 is great for short shots. A better option would be an 1895 in a 45 70. Hammer of Thor.
