The best animal to hunt is the one in your sight at the time.

My favorite animal is squirrel.
I like to hunt deer, but hunting squirrel brings me back to when I was young and, squirrel hunting is what I did most.
I makes me feel like I did back in the 1970's.
Rabbit hunting is a big thrill to.
But hunting squirrel is my favorite.

The poll is flawed. The best animal to hunt it the one in season at the time that you have a valid license for. That is the only possible correct answer.

By the way, you forgot to put elk, bear or hog on the list.

And your point is? I didn't see a particular geographical location listed in the poll so it is only fair to assume you're talking nationwide. Besides, you have elk and bear within a 1 days drive of South MN. Hogs may be a little harder but those 2 are definitely available to you.

Big mule deer buck.

Most challenging hunt in the Rockies. IMO.

I absolutely love hog hunting. It's a plus to know I'm doing my part to thin the herd. Whitetails come in a close second.
