MM, I have heard that and now after a few cases believe it has merit. My buck last year was a perfect 5 on the right but his left was wonked out and grew some nontypical points to boot with a total of 7 points. I noticed this buck in ML season and he had a sizable limb on the rights side. In rifle season I called him with rattling and shot him, I noticed the injury appeared worse and upon skinning him found lots of bruising and puss in the right rear ham...the injury appeared older and just wasn' t healing properly. On another occasion it happened with an elk his right was a solid heavy 5, but his left almost appeared to be a spike(although having 5 points coming out in shorter nontypical fashions), upon skinning we found this elk had sustained a broken right leg and it healed but old puss in the area indicated that the break may have happened earlier that year, possibly in the velvet stage causing for some malformation of his antler on the left side. The deer you picture could be a direct result of the eye loss or another injury. It is possible just old age and nature, I have viewed this as well when they go over the hill them horns can do some crazy stuff.
Don' t really know for sure, kind makes it fun to play corner when you harvest such an animal though.

Man I' d probably s**t my pants if something like that walked out on me. I' m not to good at the scoring so I' m not even gonna take a shot at it. Beautiful deer though thanks for sharing.

I know for sure I will get buck fever. I have never seen one like this myself in person. That is the great thing about these tracking cameras, you get to see deer you may never see otherwise. Plus it will keep me out in the field much longer knowing that old One Eyed Jack is out there. Only problem is there are about 6 other hunters on the same ranch, and all of them hunt in arwas close to where I took this pic. Oh well, I guess the best man will have him on thier wall.

Nice buck. Welcome to the board, always room for a few more. If you did manage to harvest him would you mount him with one eye?

I asked myself the same question and I think in honor of the deer it should be mounted with only one eye. Just like he was when he was alive. Thanks for the welcome. I am leaving to my ranch tomorrow to pick up some more pics and set my camera back where One Eyed Jack and the young 12 point are. It will be interesting too se hoew much they have changed once the velvet is gone. I have pictures of One Eyed Jack in three different stages of antler developement. I iwll have to post them someday. -Miller Man
