Is my buck a 6 point or an 8?

Looks like it used to be an eight pointer but then broke 2 and became a six pointer. I think the points have to be at least an inch long as I've been told. Nice buck!

Exactly! And that's why it's a 6pt, the G-3 tips became the ends of the mainbeams, because of where they broke.
Ain't this fun?

How do you turn a G3 into a main beam? The G3 grows straight up from the top of the main beam.

To me it looks like its a 7 point.the right side isnt broken its just got 3 points includeing the main beam.the left side looks like the main beam is broken which makes it 4 points.in the end it doesnt matter gross score is still the same.

On the other hand,if both main beams are indeed broken then it is an 8 point.but it will lose the circumfrence measurement taken from infront of the g3 as there is nothing to measure, again gross score will be the same

I'm aware of that. Haven't you ever seen a buck where his main beams turn up radically at the tips? I have. In this strange case, the G-3s became the main beam tips. Like I said, because the breaks were pretty much flush with the G-3s. If there was 1" or more of antler past the G-3s, then I'd say it was an 8pt.

its not a record breaker so doesn't matter...but Id say 7pt if the broke piece is 1in or bigger...but its got a story to tell so its still a trophy in my book.

The scorer will measure the main beams from the burr to where they break. The G3s will be measured from where they come off of the main beam.

Haven't you ever seen a buck where his main beams turn up radically at the tips?
Yes, and they are still the mainbeams. It usually happens after the G3s. This buck's main beams broke after the G3s. One a little more than the other.

Are you saying that the scorer would take the tape from the burr, and when he hits the G3s, makes a 90 degree upward turn and calls that the end of the main beam? Why wouldn't he run the tape until he runs out of main beam to measure?
