I doubt a deer would associate tobacco smoke (or any other smoke) with imminent danger. They grow up and live their lives smelling smoke from brush fires and stuff like that. The biggest danger is that they might get curious and try to locate the source, busting you in the process.

As far as smoking a cigar while hunting, I wouldn't.
But then I wouldn't smoke one anywhere else either.
