Sounds like a shoulder shot. Did you hear a crack upon impact? No arrow, trailable blood but not good quantities, sudden stop to blood trail. But it may also have been a good hit but poor penetration. Go back out in daylight just to make sure. Search areas of thicker cover, blowdowns and near water. Anywhere downhill from last blood.

7.62NATO Thanks for advice.
I found some fresh tracks, followed them and they led to my treestand. I know they are fresh because it snowed and rained last night into this morning. One positive thing is I found an active scape and some very large tracks leading to another scrape.
I actually did go back out this am for 2 hours searching above last blood on top of ridge and up and down hill each side of last blood and up and down creek bottom. Then I searched other side of ridge and a known bedding area. No sign of my arrow or any more blood.

Cool. Your spot will be fine, as it seems to be already. If that's where the deer come they will be back.

that's still not conclusive to a wounded deer snorting/blowing...just another deer in the area...I may be wrong but like I said Ive never had a wounded deer snort/blow after I shot it...with anything. prob a shoulder shot if you didn't find the arrow. Coyotes will have some dinner.

probably, as I went out today for two hours and looked every where and direction from last blood. Trapper on the property just got 5 coyotes in the last week, but I'm sure there's more.
