Little bit of ground shrinkage but a good ending to a very long evening of tracking/searching. Hope the picture works(first post from a cell phone)

thanks guys.

He only went about 200 yards give or take but I shot him quartering and caught some gut on the exit. Some intestine came through the hole and plugged him up. Not one drop of blood past 30 yards so it was hours of walking up and down a deep hollow. My buddy found him at about midnight.

It was stressful. I had the pass through at about 7 yards and I just couldn't believe he wasn't bleeding but it was obvious why when we found him.

Funny story. He ran right under me after I shot him and when I got down I noticed the ground was all wet under my stand. I started to reach out to put my finger in it and smell it and I remembered I took a pee right before I came down. I was about a split second from sniffing around in my own pee.

Wow that is some tough tracking, especially in the dark. Good work!

I had some great help. I even had a guy get out of bed about midnight when we found him to come help drag him up out of the very bottom of the hollow......and he had to get up at 4AM to go duck hunting.

Good friends are a very valuable asset I reckon.

Just a splendid buck rockport...do I see it dressed for the taxidermist or is that some serious ground shrinkage?!

...and what a little doll you have for an assistant~

Thanks she has been putting the pressure on me all season. Every time I get home from hunting its "daddy how come you didn't catch a deer", I'm just gonna do a European mount with this one but he had a nice cape so I caped him out and saved it.

WV Hunter 11-11-2013 08:01 AM

Nothing wrong with that! Good job on the track :D

fishhound 11-11-2013 09:56 AM

Way to go staying after him and putting in the time. Glad this didnt turn into another story of sticking one and not finding him.

blackhawk16 11-11-2013 05:42 PM

Way to go! Nice buck

kateraxl2381 11-12-2013 03:46 AM

rockport 11-15-2013 09:42 AM

Thanks

European mount almost done.

NEhomer 11-15-2013 10:14 AM

Looks great but holy smokes that one would have been a full mount hanging on my wall!

I assume you already have one or two of those.

Good job on your buck.

Mojotex 11-24-2013 04:35 AM

Very nice buck and great job of tracking by you and your buddy.

Your comment about the gut plugging the exit hole and blocking leakage is one for folks that do not have a lot of hunting experience should try to remember. This is not unusual for a "quartering towards" shot, especially an archery shot made from an elevated position, such as tree stand.

It doesn't take much of a quarter either. The angle seems to always be more than I thought.
