He took a 13 point a couple weeks ago...weighed in at 245 pounds. He's bit by the big rack bug.

I can appreciate the lofty goals but points? That I don't get.

Ive got a 150 inch 14 point on my wall right next to a 165 inch 10 point. Ive got buddy that has a 160 14 point on the wall right next to a 180 inch 11 point.

If I'm on a good farm and just shot a big deer I'm passing the deer in the picture but its because I want bigger not because I want more points.

I don't even count points before I shoot.

I hear ya, in his defense he's got 130 acres backed up to 4000 acres in Kentucky and he works hard and spends lots of cash on his feed plots. He has cameras on all his plots ad he's seen the deer he wants....being very patient.

Here's a pick of the 13 pointer he took a few weeks ago!

I get everything but the points part. Nothing wrong with waiting, I do the same thing regularly.

So if that deer doesn't have the 3 extras on the brow tines he is letting it walk?

Not interested in booner bucks unless they have 14 points?

I admire his ability to live up to his own expectations. I have no idea how he came to these standards, but wish him the best of luck. I would have let him walk, especially if I had an expectation of a much larger deer.

The only way I would have passed is if I had scouted that stand knowing that there was a 14 pt in the area and had pictures of him, otherwise he may not shoot a deer for 20 years with that rule.

That deer would have been down in a flash if it were me, but does your buddy have pictures of this 14 pt? Has he spotted him near his stand? If he is hunting A deer that he is aware of, I hope he nails him, otherwise I would question his sanity.

Ah, young folks...

have a lot of time yet to sit, sit, sit, and wait.

If he's seen a 14 point he hasn't told me about it. His attitude is to grow his herd by leaving the buck population intact. Ive seen him pass on 8 and 9 point bucks on a continued basis.

Me, I would have taken the shot when he lined up....

What would you have done?

Coming from someone who has shot a 14-point buck ( see here: http://www.huntingnet.com/forum/whit...oint-buck.html ), my opinion on this matter is: BANG.

Simply put, I would have shot...
