Morning and Evening Stand Sites
I have a stand about 60 yards in the woods from a hay field with a creek behind me in the bottom and have only sat in it for evening hunts with a NE or E wind. I am a little confused if I should hunt it in the mornings with the right wind or will I miss deer coming from field to bedding? The reason I am asking is because we are going to get some cold weather this week and are going to have the right winds and time to hunt it in the am.

Only one way to know...hunt it

True, will never know till I do.

Is it facing the east?If the sun's going to come up and light you up then I would question it.Other than that I would go for it and see.

If you are considering then it is worth a shot.

Use cover scent and hunt it!!

make sure you can get in with minimal light and quietly as well. I like to use light on my trail in but I don't like shining all around the woods looking for my stands.

I would say morning hunt it to catch them coming in to bed. Unless your walking through the field they feed in. If that's their bedding area I would think you would bust them out getting to your stand in the evening.

Some would depend on the type of stand it is. Is it an open one you can easly see in the night sky line? is it a enclosed blind that will hold and scent some?
Any way it is worth a try. If you get busted it will be OK again in a short time. :D Al |
