Scent Behavior
 

Just wondering how a deer would react to a cover scent they are not familiar with. For example, a persimmon scent in an area where persimmons are not plentiful. Would the unfamiliar scent drive deer away or would the curiosity of the sweet smell possibly lure them? Any thoughts...

I try to stay away from scents that aren' t native to the area I hunt. Younger deer may be curious and come in to investigate, but wise old bucks will generally avoid any scent that is out of place. Better to be safe than sorry.

I really do not think it will affect your hutning. A few years back I took a ton of time and effort to keep sent away from by direct shooting lane and around my tree.

I also use attractent between to tree near the deer trail and fox pee cover to my stand.

Any way, before going to my stand one morning I relieved my self before entering the trail to my location/set-up.

I couild clearly see 360' around me from in the stand. In short, the deer I took, I shot while investigating my urine sent.

He took more interest in this than the deer luer. Ironic? not shure but I am not parinoid to pee in the woods where I hunt any more.

The sent I was always told would spook deer, didn' t.

I would not use any scent that is not common in the area that you are hunting. There is a slight chance that tey will come to it out of curiosity, but they more than likely will be spooked by an uncommon odor.
Oddly, I have found that human urine usually does arouse their curiosity though.
The best scent, is no scent at all though!
