what shotgun, gauge are you using, also rifled bore?
what is your price range? |
How long are your usual shots at deer? This is what I have but my shots are all under 100 yds.

I'm a Leupold guy myself, don't see a need to spend more and have had good luck with reliability and always track good...Another advantage is you can send it back to Leupold and have the parallax adjusted or reticle changed...

Nikon ProStaff 3x9x40 Slug Hunter BDC. Love it, nice scope. I switched over to Nikon a couple years ago. Putting them on everything now. BTW, have it on a Savage 220F.

Most of today's scopes are very good, it comes down to what you want to spend.
On the lower line I would look into the Bushnell Trophy XLT, not a bad scope for the money, matter of fact I have one on one of my shotguns. Nikon Pro Staff are very good I have one but not yet mounted on anything. Votex Diamond are really coming up strong Leupold VX-1 is good quality with Leuopld's Name backing it up Leupold VX-2 well just a damn great scope I have them on many slug guns, and would say that is the scope to look into and purchase Whatever scope you go with I say go with a 3-9x40 with a plex. No need for a "shotgun only" scope, todays shotguns and ammo combo can reach out further, and a rifle scope is what you need |
Indy deer hunter,
I use the slughunter without the BDC by Nikon for both shotgun and muzzleloader. They are 3x9 and have a five inch eye relief for those of us who have had bad experiences with bloody noses daddus |
nikon 100%... on my slug gun i have a nikon slughunter its perfect for the gun. if you have just a 12 ga shotty i would suggest a truglo red dot scope or something like that. for a slug gun a nikon or leupold scope would be the way to go. personally i dont think there is a need for anything other than iron sights or a red dot scope on a regular 12 or 20 ga shotgun. most of your shots are within 60 yards anyway.
