Effects of Excessive Ticks
 

This year we have had more ticks than anything I can ever remember in my life. Not unusual to pick up 50+ ticks out walking. I am wondering how this will affect the deer?

Anybody hear of deer dieing off due to too many woodticks?

I don't know, I have killed some deer with a lot of ticks on them. You have a point though, they are really bad this year.

I have seen them as heavy as they are this year on many Deer in my area and when the fall gets here only a few seem to be the worse because of them. The healthy ones seem to suffer no adverse affects at all based on the health I see during the hunting season. I keep my cameras up all summer and up to the end of the season so I have a good idea how the herd is doing in my area. The are tough animals and I put out mineral blocks with sulphur to help them out and some of the supliments helps I believe as well. Even after the drought last year they bounced back in our area.

The ticks are finally gone :) And it seems some of the deer I was seeing early in the spring are back. Do you think the deer avoid high-tick areas? We are in clay, but only about 1/2 mile from here is sand, and the ticks were not nearly as bad in the sand country.

I've heard of heavy infestations up north so bad that moose have died from them in previous years.

Would think if the deer are living with all the ticks in the South then your deer up north should be fine. That is unless they are more susceptible to disease. Ticks on deer down here is just too common.
