I have been using Federal Vital Shok with Barnes 180 gr TSX for many years on northern whitetails in New England, mule deer and elk in the west. Best factory load IMO available and they shoot equally well through both of my 06's. I understand that Barnes was bought out by the holding company that owns Remington and that they pulled the TSX from the federal lineup. I'll try the equivalent bullet from Remington now and see how it compares with the federal. the TSX is the best shooting and performing bullet I have ever used so I want to continue with that.

150 Winchester BST, 150 Hornady SST or any 150 Ballistic Tip. I have tried several 165 grain but here in NC deer are small, even bucks average less than 125 pounds and the 165 mostly do not expand enough for the quicker kills you get with the 150s.

The Core Lokt is the only round which I stopped hunting with on deer, they pass through too clean. Entry and exit holes close too quickly. Hornady Superformance SST had unbeleivable interior damage with a large exit hole the last 2 years, but may have been too extreme. A lot of ribs were garbage due to all the gellanitized blood. I might try something inbetween. May try Winchester Silvertip or Barnes this year. Hornady SST gave me the most impressive knock down in the 30-06, but thinking the 150 gr SST instead of the 165 gr Superformance SST may be the way to go.

All I have used is the 150 gr Winchester Power Points in the grey box. They are cheap and they do work.

I use 180 gr. Core Lokt in one of 30-06, and 150 gr. Core Lokt in the other.

168 grain winchester silvertip ballistic tip. Without sounding unethical if you hit a whitetail almost anywhere that is not a graze or back hip it rocks them any angle body hit they don't go far ever.
