Snake Bite: Do You Need a Snake Bite Kit? Really?

Great video of a snake bite kit saving a life: Snake Bite: Do You Need a Snake Bite Kit? Really?

Since we have a sum total of something like TWO species of snakes: Fire Snake and Garter Snake, I don't think I need a snake bite kit. I guess that is one fringe benefit of living in this gigantic refrigerator we call NW WI. High was 40 degrees yesterday and leaves are still not all the way out.

Snake bite kits went out of vogue in the 70s...Best thing to do is keep person calm, apply ice and get to the hospital as soon as possible...

A good cell/sat phone with good service so you call the hospital you're going to so they can prepare the anti-venom. I've seen a Lightly applied tourniquet to help ease the spread of venom through the body…..Especially if it's a long ride.

Wear good snake chaps or boots.Living the opposite of MZS(in a giant oven)I just move slow and let them get out of the way.

It is better to have it, and not need it, than to need it and not have it.
Especially if you are very far from help.

Granted I'm in Ohio.... but I don't ever recall seeing a snake while hunting, not even a garter.

I don't know about snake bite kits (have read mixed things about them). I think NChawkeye has it about right.
