Food plot
 

OK i just got new land to hunt and it is real hilly like really hilly and there are a few streams and i dont know where to put the food plot on the top of one of the hills or in one of the valleys :confused:

here in missouri, it would be foolish not to put your crop in a valley.

The soil is usually better along a water source/creek bed,plus there's going to be good moisture in a low lying area.We have put a few food plots up high on Ridge Tops,it depends on the quality of soil there...if You can try to get a soil sample and PH reading from each area and decide from there?

We just planted several small Durana Clover Food Plots in the Big Timber in area's that were thinned out for timber stand improvements,we cleaned off the area,cut a few more smaller tree's out then raked it out and ran a small ATV disc across it while spreading out granulated lime then seeded the clover on top.Time will tell on wether our hard work paid off!

Deer will typically travel and valley/stream rather than walk a high ridge where they are more visible.

I'd go with the valley as well assuming it isn't too wet. Corners tend to get used more than sides.

Not to be contrary, my experience has differed.
I have found that deer tend to cross finger ridges, walk ridgelines, sneak through dense areas and get nocturnal around feeding areas.

Main concern IMHO is to find an area suitable for growing what you want to grow. The deer will find the food source and eventually, establish patterns of access.

Now your job just got easier. Let the deer do the work for you (other than the purchase, planting and propagation).

Soil composition, drainage, access to hydration, sunlight and nutrients.
