Those are some bruisers! No doubt that Iowa grows some big deer with the crops and adjacent cover they have along with some great genetics!

I also truly believe that not having a high power season is a huge reason for our big deer. There are good genetics and food in every state but thats just one part of it. If you have a ton of people hunting with high powers there a lot of people that can kill at 300 400 500 yards just cause they can. I passed up two deer with my bow this year that was pushing 160 if not more but were young 3 years old. How long would they have lived with a high power state?

Those are some nice Iowa bucks! I'm glad to be living in Iowa. We got a few bruisers like those on our wall as well.

Do you have any idea how far guys are killing deer with modern inline MLs nowadays, including in your great state of Iowa?! I would bet that many of the dedicated deer hunters in Iowa are using one, rather than a shotgun to take a lot of the better deer that are shot out there than with just your short shots with a shotgun theory! Granted, you have to see a good one at distance before you shoot him and using a rifle would up the range and take a bigger number of good deer, but the fact is that Iowa is just a darn good big buck factory, regardless of what guns are being used to shoot them! PS: There ARE NOT good genetics or food in every state to produce deer like Iowa does either! You have some funny ideas, but are obviously blessed with a good area to kill big deer! Most people aren't.
