RE: Avg. Deer weight

Here in Missouri, (north west) I'd say the avg. was around 150 lbs. We commonly have deer taken each year in the 240 lb. range field dressed. My best friend shot a 160" class green scored 8 pointer just this past rifle season that went 241 lbs. on a certified scale. I would imagine that it all depends on the area you are asking about.
Agricultural(?) states like Kansas, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, ect. tend to have bigger bodied deer than states like Texas and so on.

Here in the southern tier of NY they can vary. I'd say most go about 140-150lbs. We do get some over 200lbs though

In Va. deer vary drastically in size, in the mountains your average buck may only dress out at 90-100 pounds, where as if you get down in the tidewater area the average buck dresses at about 140-150, my cousin killed one that dressed at 210! I killed a little 4 point yesterday that I would guess dressed at about 85-90, very small for where I hunt in Va.

In NW NJ where we hunt the avg dressed weight of bucks has been between 105-120 for the last several yrs now. In fact, it seems to be headed down towards 95-100 for some reason in my ZOne.

I hunted ILL and the deer all avg over 150 and we shot 2 bucks that dressed at 190 and 210.

Looking at the world from 15 feet up.

I would estimate that the average field dressed weight of Wisconsin deer would be around 100 to 120#. There are some alot bigger and some a lot smaller.

I would say that the bucks that I've seen taken in my area avg between 110-120#'s. There is a very popular deer area not far from me (Llano) where they run smaller. South Texas is famous for big deer, and East Texas has those big Piney Woods deer. Depends on where you hunt.

Where I hunt the average live weight of a deer will be around 200lbs.I only harvest mature bucks and the average live weight of my deer would be around 275 to 300 lbs.

At least. Canadian deer are big, eh?
The doe I got this year (had to) weighed about 180 dressed.

Taz hit the nail on the head for VA. I hunt in the mountains and the average wieght is around 100lbs. They don't have the crop lands to gorge on. I did harvest 2 nice bucks this year in the 140-45 range. Maybe the food plots we planted finally started to work. We have been very dilegent for 3 years. Who know's, maybe it will payoff.

Canadian stalker-Mature bucks in our area will average 275 to 300 lbs with some considerably bigger. Many people always have and always will shoot the first deer they see which is not usually a mature buck. The result is that the average deer shot is usually a yearling or 2-1/2 year old deer.

I only know field dressed weights. Where I hunt in Maine a good doe will field dress out at about 110-130lbs. with the rare girl going heavier...every year there are stories about does approaching 175+. A mature buck will field dress around 180lbs., but can be much larger. The top ten bucks weight-wise in Maine will field dress between 255 to 295ish with a buck every five years or so field dressing over 300.

Go over to the Northeast forum and look at the thread under "8 inch bases" or something to that effect...he dressed 265 and will fall mid-range in the top ten. DLuke

Where we hunt in Oregon west of the Cascade mountains I would say 100 to 150 field dressed would be average and east of the mountains 130 to 180 . There are some taken over 200 but they are exceptional .The deer west are blacktails and east are mule deer .

RE: Avg. Deer weight

Here in N.C. the weight varies a good bit. The average 1.5 year old buck may weigh 125 pounds, a 175-200 pound mature deer is not real common though some are taken.
